Through a unique combination of multidisciplinary leadership and an international collaborative effort bringing together leading institutions worldwide, ORena provides:

1. Standardized benchmarks to train and evaluate AI systems from basic perception to complex multimodal understanding across different surgical procedures.
2. Community leaderboards to transparently track progress and drive innovation.
3. Strategic partnerships, including the collaboration with the Wellcome Leap SAVE program, to build a robust validation framework with real-world applicability.

The framework initially focuses on surgical vision within laparoscopic surgery, with plans to expand to broader surgical domains and additional clinical safety challenges.
